Boeing: Working

"Boeing is a long-standing leader in the areas of innovation and exploration so we are especially honored and humbled by their generous support. Their gift will have a significant impact on the Museum's vision to motivate and inspire our children to achieve their full potential in the areas of science, technology, engineering and medicine," said David Mosena, president and CEO of the Museum of Science and Industry.
In regards to the 2000 elections, Boeing, like most corporations, was handing out generous campaign contributions. Soft Money and PAC contributions totaled more than $1.5 million, with 58% going to Republican candidates. Boeing kicked in $100,000 for the Bush Inauguration, and $100,000 for the Democratic National Convention.
During this period of prosperity with commercial jetliners, Boeing made several attempts to diversify its business. Not all of them were successful. In the 1970s Boeing entered the metro-rail business, manufacturing mass transit systems for Boston, San Francisco, and Morgantown, West Virginia. The systems were modern, computerized, and efficient. They were ... prone to frequent breakdowns. After fulfilling its obligation to rectify the systems (at great cost), Boeing decided to discontinue its ground transport business.

Boeing joins on the roundtable outstanding corporations in the telecommunications, automotive, aerospace, consumer goods, and retail industries. The combined Billion Dollar Roundtable membership celebrated collective purchases of more than $24 billion in products and services from minority- and woman-owned suppliers in 2006.
Boeing will be exempt from paying rent for 20 years on its headquarters just west of Chicago’s downtown Loop. Boeing will pay 35 percent of its taxes and then receive rebates from governmental taxing bodies. The Tribune estimated that a freestanding 300,000 square-foot office building, roughly the amount of space Boeing will occupy, would pay more than $40 million in taxes in the next 20 years.

Boeing 247 Chang dispatched his Boeing to fetch the Communists from Yenan and other warlords. The Reds proposed Chiang Kai-shek call a truce to the civil war and that all factions wage immediate war on Japan under his leadership. As part of the deal, Chiang Kai-shek was released, and he kept his promise. But he never forgave Chang Hsueh-liang. When the honorable Young Marshal flew to Nanking in his Boeing and surrendered to Chiang by way of apology for his conduct at Sian, the Generalissimo had him imprisoned. The KMT even took him with them when they fled to Taiwan, where he remained in prison well into the 1990s.
