Boeing: New Boeing
built 654 days ago
The Boeing deployment of smartcard technology is the third phase of its SecureBadge initiative that began with Siemens Building Technologies implementation of a new proximity card system for building access. Boeing plans a full-function pilot implementation of the Siemens smartcard solution for the third quarter of this year. Production deployment is scheduled to start in early 2004 and will focus initially on authentication of users who access information systems.
Boeing was one of 12 corporations that paid $250,000 to be on a host committee for NATO’s 50th anniversary celebration in Washington in 1994. The payoff comes for Boeing whenever a new nation is inducted into NATO. Part of paying the dues is updating the country’s military arsenal, a task that Boeing is more than willing to help with.

"To keep Boeing performing well, we have very aggressive long-range goals for improving its growth and productivity," said McNerney. "The formation of this new organization under Jim Jamieson will help ensure that the level of functional discipline needed to meet those goals is achieved in the engineering, operations and technology functions."
SEATTLE, Aug. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Boeing and Monarch Airlines of the United Kingdom announced today that the airline has ordered six Boeing 787-8s with purchase rights for another four. The order is worth $916 million at list prices. With first delivery starting in 2010, the airline will use the new advanced, fuel-efficient 787s as the basis of its future long-haul operations. Monarch's current long-haul fleet comprises Boeing 767s, A300s and A330-200s. The Dreamliner's size, extended range and superior fuel efficiency make it ideally suited for Monarch Airlines' business model, which includes both scheduled and charter operations. Since its launch in April 2004, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner has attracted the attention of customers operating a variety of business models.
Boeing 377 Stratocruiser Recently, Boeing launched a new aircraft, the 787 Dreamliner, and five new variants of existing designs: ultra-long-range 777-200LR, 737-900ER, 737-700ER, 777 Freighter and 747-8. The 777-200LR has the longest range of any commercial aircraft and was first delivered in 2006. The 737-900ER and 737-700ER will extend the range of the -900 and -700 models. Due to rising fuel costs, the more efficient twinjet 777 has been winning orders. The rapid success of the 787 has resulting in Airbus following suit with the competing A350, though the latter still lags behind in development and orders. The 747-8 is a stretched version of the 747-400 and will offer improved efficiency and longer range.
Outwardly almost indistinguishable from the swept-wing, podded-jet engine arrangement of the Boeing 707, the DC-8 was able to draw on the tremendous loyalty of airlines to Douglas products. In the end... the Boeing Company would win out with a relentless series of new models -- 727, 737, 747 -- each in many variants, to the point that Douglas could no longer compete, and was ultimately forced to merge with McDonnell.
