"It's a little more down home and personal," a smiling Seagren said an hour after the marathon top three hit the tape. "I had someone say to me this is the `Marathon of the People.' We did away with our elite runner program three years ago and we've actually been able to grow the race larger.

Over the years the name Bob has appeared in a large number of movie and television show titles. There are many songs, books and stories, too, that use the name of Bob in their titles. Perhaps it's so popular because it's so easy to say?

At the 1968 Olympics, Seagren astounded everyone by passing when the bar was at 17 feet, 6 3/4 inches. He was unfamiliar with the metric system used in international competition, and he thought that 5.35 meters was relatively low. However, he cleared 17-8 1/2 and won the gold medal because he had the fewest misses.
