Robert William "Bob" Hoskins Jr (born October 26, 1942) is an English Academy Award-nominated actor best known for playing Cockney rough diamonds and gangsters, and for his appearance in family films such as Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) and Hook (1991). He has two children with his current wife, and two children from a previous marriage. Bob Hoskins likes his language salty. In fact, if you said he swears like a sailor, you'd be dead-on. Not only because he punctuates his sentences with four-letter words the way most people use commas or semicolons but ... because Hoskins actually was a sailor. When he was 15, he dropped out of school, left London, and joined the Norwegian Merchant Navy. In the end, it didn't take — he quit after getting stuck in the galley with a short-fused Dutch cook — but the colorfully obscene patois of the high seas remains.

Bob Hoskins is best known in America as the non-cartoon detective in 1988's Who Framed Roger Rabbit, but he has had a remarkably diverse acting career. Hoskins has played characters ranging from Smee the Pirate (in Steven Spielberg's Hook) to J. Edgar Hoover (in Oliver Stone's Nixon) to Iago (in the BBC production of Othello), and he was nominated for an Academy Award for Neil Jordan's Mona Lisa. That role ultimately led Hoskins to his new film TwentyFourSeven, a blue-collar boxing movie strikingly directed by newcomer Shane Meadows. For his powerful role as a boxing coach and proxy father figure, Hoskins won Best Actor at the European Film Awards. Lovable Brit thesp, Bob Hoskins, is to join Rhona Mitra in the cast of Neil Marshall’s soon-to-be-in-production, Doomsday. The pic, an apocalypticSci-Fi/Thriller about attampts to contain a deadly virus, sees the Dog Soldiers and The Descent writer/director branch out from the horror that made his name. Hoskinswil play a policeman who monitors the progress of the team, headed by Mitra, which is attempting to produce a cure. The pic, a Rogue Pictures project, will see Hoskins re-team with the company following 2005’s poor and often embarrassing Unleashed. Also cast are some familiar Marshall faces: Sean Pertwee, Darren Morfitt, Emma Cleasby, and Chris Robson, of Dog Soldiers, and MyAnna Buring and Nora-Jane Noone of The Descent. Making up the Marshall alumni are Leslie Simpson and Craig Conway, who each appeared in both flicks.

Besides living in Lebanon, Bob and Hazel have resided in Africa, South America, and France. Since 1980, the Hoskins' have been living in Deerfield, Florida, where Bob served as president of Life Publishers International. In 1987, missionary Bob Hoskins was asked by the Minister of Education in El Salvador to provide bibles to the country's 986,000 school children. Bob was up to the challenge, but instead of bibles, he delivered what is now called the Book of Hope, with tremendous results. The country was caught in a wave of church revivals and students and their families committing their lives to Christ.
