Blue Coat WebFilter is the first Web content filter to feature Real-Time Anti-Phishing protection. Most of the industry's available anti-phishing solutions provide protection solely by checking a user's Web URL requests against a database of known phishing sites. Phishing sites... are generally short-lived and each day hundreds of new ones appear, so the practice of evaluating a requested page against a static database is generally ineffective. Rather than solely depending on a database, the Blue Coat Real-Time Anti-Phishing protection technology is the first to assess a Web site "on the fly" and to examine the site based on proprietary algorithms.

Blue Coat WebFilter is a content filtering service that categorizes domain names, directories and IP addresses for policy enforcement and security. Blue Coat’s ‘Dynamic Real-Time Rating (DRTR)’, uses artificial intelligence to attempt to categorize new Web pages the first time a user requests access.

Blue Coat combines reporting features and on-proxy URL filtering to block known spyware and adware Web sites. These capabilities can block both attempted infections from known spyware Web sites, as well as spyware attempting to "phone home" to a known spyware domain. The Blue Coat ProxySG supports five leading on-proxy URL filtering databases, plus custom categories, overrides and exceptions to advise, coach and enforce users on spyware protection.

According to a Blue Coat survey of over 1,400 IT professionals conducted earlier this year, 82% expected to see an increase in the number of mobile users from their enterprise during 2007. Other industry research has indicated that there has already been a significant increase in the percentage of enterprise employees who are provided with laptop computers instead of desktop computers.
