Two young sisters walked onto stage before a crowd eagerly awaiting Bloc Party, a British indie rock band. Sept. 11 at The Pabst Theater. The patrons mildly applauded. Without warning, an incredible indie electronica performance hit the gathering.

What's left is a little room at the top, filled gladly by Okerke, who shouts more often than he sings, adding more immediacy to the already urgent Bloc Party oeuvre. Not even the band's ballads, and there are many ballads, can enjoy a moment's rest; the music is just too animated. Concertgoers, in turn, were more prone to slam-dance than slow dance.

The October 20 issue will have a special LMHR-themed cover, bringing together Lethal Bizzle, Babyshambles, Bloc Party, Dirty Pretty Things, The View and The Enemy. It will ... carry a feature on the history of LMHR, a roundtable discussion with the artists about racism and the story of Rock Against Racism, the anti-fascist movement of the 70's that saw bands like The Clash fight back against the National Front.

In 2003 they changed their name from Union to Bloc Party. The name is a play on block party, a name for an informal neighbourhood festival, which might hire a local band as entertainment. The band have said that the name was not intended to be an allusion to the Soviet Bloc or the Canadian political party Bloc Québécois; the absence of a 'k' is purely for aesthetics.

There are concerts and “video nights” at places like Arlene’s, Pianos, Mercury Lounge, and The Annex and an in-house Zine called “Lowlife.” With the heavy focus on music, it looks like they are definitely aiming to over the MySpace audience.
