Blitzkrieg

Blitzkrieg's widest influence was within the Western Allied leadership of the war, some of whom drew inspiration from the Wehrmacht's approach. United States General George S. Patton emphasized fast pursuit, the use of an armored spearhead to effect a breakthrough, and then cutting off and disrupting enemy forces prior to their flight. In his comments of the time, he credited Guderian and Rommel's work, notably Infantry Attacks, for this insight. He ... put into practice the idea attributed to cavalry leader Nathan Bedford Forrest, “Get there firstest, with the mostest.” (Get there fastest, with the most forces).

Blitzkrieg is a RTS game that puts you in command of over 220 tanks, vehicles, artillery and aircraft with 40 different types of infantry to recreate the major battles of WWII in the European and North African Theaters. It includes 3 campaigns for the Allies, Germans and Soviet Union and an unlimited number of random missions. Unique and completely flexible campaign structure puts you in control of deciding how your forces will fare in each of the major engagements that comprise three central Campaigns. Blitzkrieg has almost complete historical accuracy as each unit is endowed with the actual capabilities and characteristics that existed at the time. Each campaign has been meticulously researched to provide an accurate depiction of the battles, while still maintaining the flexibility (and fun!) necessary to let you play the way you want.

Blitzkrieg ... has had some influence on subsequent militaries and doctrines. The Israel Defense Forces may have been influenced by blitzkrieg in creating a military of flexible armored spearheads and close air support.[24] The Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 is also considered as a modern example of blitzkrieg style assault by Indian forces that ended in a swift defeat of Pakistan, within a fortnight.[25] The 1990s United States theorists of “Shock and awe” claim blitzkrieg as a subset of strategies which they term “rapid dominance”.

Blitzkrieg 2, like the original, is a "tactical" RTS -- one that tries to bridge the gap between a grognard-friendly turn-based game and the more simplistic, but highly commercial RTS models typified by Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War. Like that game, Blitzkrieg 2 jettisons most resource management, instead offering a player most of the military units they're going to get at the start of each mission. Each unit is ... modeled (more or less) realistically, with different armor ratings on the front, sides, and rear of a vehicle, and a finite amount of ammunition. That, naturally, contributes to a more deliberate play style as players can't simply rush headlong into battle since every lost unit could be the critical one that costs them the battle. Players do have reinforcements available, but these, too, are finite. They also carry over from mission to mission in the single-player campaign, meaning that one is loathe to risk them when there may be a greater need down the line.

Blitzkrieg means "lightening war". Blitzkrieg was first used by the Germans in World War Two and was a tactic based on speed and surprise and needed a military force to be based around light tank units supported by planes and infantry (foot soldiers). The tactic was developed in Germany by an army officer called Hans Guderian. He had written a military pamphlet called "Achtung Panzer" which got into the hands of Hitler. As a tactic it was used to devastating effect in the first years of World War Two and resulted in the British and French armies being pushed back in just a few weeks to the beaches of Dunkirk and the Russian army being devastated in the attack on Russia in June 1941.

Blitzkrieg was formed in October 1980 and then secured a deal with Neat Records, producing the single "Buried Alive" c/w "Blitzkrieg" and a track on the "Lead Weight" compilation album. 'BLITZKRIEG' gigged extensively in England but split in December 1981. Brian Ross and Mick Moore stayed together to form the heart of ‘AVENGER' , recording two singles before leaving to join 'SATAN with whom he recorded the classic "Court In The Act" album. After a successful European tour in 1983, Brian decided that it was time to record the 'BLITZKRIEG' album that had originally been planned for release back in 1981. The resulting album, "A Time Of Changes", was released in 1986.
