Blindside: Albums
built 187 days ago
When Swedish rockers Blindside presented their label debut under Elektra Records and P.O.D.'s short-lived 3 Point imprint, the group seemed poised for big things. The album was well-received by the press and fans, and tours with Linkin Park, Hoobastank, and their benefactors only served to magnify their exposure. But due to massive restructuring at the Warner Music Group, Elektra folded into Atlantic Records, leaving bands such as Blindside lost in the shuffle. Add to that a wrecked tour bus and stolen equipment during 2004's Internal Storm Tour, and it clearly wasn't a sunny year for the foursome.

Blindside has brought forth an album that showcases well the best elements of the band from the past 3 albums. With a little more room to stretch creatively, Blindside has matured well over the last few years, while bringing out some of their more hardcore elements of past outings that their fans loved so much. This is definitely a step in the right direction, and fans of Blindside, new and old, will find equal enjoyment in this latest recording by the boys from Sweden.

Blindside decided to name their fourth album About a Burning Fire because the songs are about the crackling flames of ambition burning within the human heart. However, while working on the video for the album's first single, "All of Us," Blindside longed for a burning fire for a more practical reason — to warm their frozen hands.

It's been just over a year since the release of Blindside's last outing, About A Burning Fire, an album that saw Blindside break out more from the mold that they lived in on prior albums, to a more mature sound. The difference was definitely noticed by fans that had followed the band since their 1997 self-titled debut, pleasing some, and disappointing others.

[I]t wasn't these many misfortunes that inspired the title of Blindside's fifth album, The Great Depression. Earlier this year, vocalist Christian Lindskog and his wife took a missionary trip to South Africa to experience first-hand the different maladies afflicting the continent. They saw how the plights of AIDS and poverty were killing young people in droves, and that struck a chord with them. However, Lindskog looked a little deeper and concluded the Western world is dying at a similarly rapid pace, though of entirely different causes.

In 1997, Solid State Records got a hold of the EP and signed Blindside. The first album, which was self-titled, was released to American audiences. This album had quite a raw, punk-rock feel and was well-received by fans of P.O.D. and Mr. Bungle.
