Blake Edwards (born July 26, 1922) is an Academy Award-winning American film director, screenwriter, and producer. Born William Blake Crump in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Edwards was the son of a stage director. He began his career as an actor and script-writer, including seven screenplays for Richard Quine. His early career as a script-writer was for radio. His hard-boiled private detective scripts for Richard Diamond, Private Detective became NBC's answer to Sam Spade and Philip Marlowe, reflecting Edwards' unique humor. Edwards ... created, wrote and directed the 1959 TV series Peter Gunn, with music by Henry Mancini.

Blake Edwards, President of the Arizona Rattlers, is in his third year of overseeing day-to-day operations surrounding one of the Arena Football League’s most prestigious franchises after completing a season as the team’s Chief Operating Officer. Blake Edwards' 10 stars Dudley Moore as George, a Mancini-type songwriter. Approaching middle age, George feels as if life is passing him by, especially his sex life. Despite the presence of longtime lady friend Sam (Julie Andrews) in his life, he becomes obsessed from afar with Jenny (Bo Derek), who is engaged to be married. Following her to Mexico without her knowledge, George arranges a meeting with Jenny by saving the life of her fiancé, David (Sam Jones). Once he has made her acquaintance, George suddenly finds himself faced with the realities of embarking on such an affair. Beyond renewing the popularity of Maurice Ravel's "Bolero" and turning Bo Derek into a star, upon its release, 10 was one of the most financially successful Blake Edwards films in years.

The Notorious Landlady (1962) is a film directed by Richard Quine; Blake Edwards contributed to the screenplay. The screen play has several features in common with Edwards' Pink Panther movies to come, especially A Shot in the Dark (1964). Both take place against sophisticated European settings. Both films are mystery stories which are played for comedy. Both subvert and satirize the conventions of the mystery genre.
