Black Hawk Down (2001): Somalia
built 271 days ago
Black Hawk Down wastes no time in setting its scenario. Subtitles tell the story of how, in 1993, the United Nations sent food packets to famine-ravaged Somalia as part of a humanitarian world gesture. The shipments were intercepted and kept from the masses by a militant group lead by Mohamed Farah Aidid, who had gained control over much of the region as a result of the country's years of in-fighting. The United States then lead a military force in to the region to oust Aidid.

Black Hawk Down may not give any insight into the politics of 1993's Somalia, but it delivers an entertaining overdose of graphic action. There's only one gnawing question left unanswered: why is the stupid jogging suit so popular with mid-level militia leaders in modern war movies?

When the two Delta snipers are approaching the second downed Black Hawk, a Somalian man in a white shirt is shown from behind. Clearly visible is a pack on his back. A few seconds later he is shot by one of the snipers in that exact spot. It's a blood pack.
