Several cups of chè đậu trắng, a Vietnamese dessert made with black-eyed peas Black-eyed peas are traditionally eaten on New Year's Day in the American South and in some other parts of the USA. In some areas, they are served as a starchy side dish, cooked with or without fatback and/or diced onion, and often served with a hot chili sauce or a pepper-flavored vinegar. In other areas, they are served in a traditional dish called "Hoppin' John" made of black-eyed peas cooked with rice, sometimes pork (such as hawg maws, neckbone, hock, or fatback), and seasonings.
Following the success of the Monkey Business Tour in 2006, the Black-Eyed Peas are returning to Bangkok and will perform at Impact Arena, Muang Thong Thani, on October 18. Special guests is American pop band Click Five.

Black-eyed peas are a Southern tradition for New Year's Day. The more you eat on that day, the more prosperous you will be in the coming year. This Black-eyed pea recipe is easy to make and serves as a hearty meal in itself.
Simmer black-eye peas until tender in 8-10 cups of water. Cook celery and carrots together (microwave with some of the soup stock) until tender, add to soup. Sautee onion carefully in some of the soup stock, add to soup. Add kale, tabasco and salt to taste, simmer 30 minutes.
