Bisexual chic is a phrase used to describe bisexuality. One usage of the phrase describes increased public interest in bisexuality, or increased social acceptance of bisexuality. This usage is usually associated with a celebrity coming out as bisexual or being labeled as bisexual, or with a high-profile reference to bisexuality in popular culture media, like a cover article of a magazine. The other main usage describes a faddish attention towards bisexuality. This usage is ... limited in scope, as it fails to provide relevant content of what it means to be bisexual, to give context to the legitimacy of bisexuality as an orientation, and even to convey a full understanding of bisexuality.[1]

Marilee Lindemann, associate professor of English and director of the program in Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Studies at the University of Maryland, won the 2007 Michael Lynch Service Award from the gay/lesbian/queer caucus of the Modern Language Association. The award recognizes her extensive service in building and directing the University of Maryland's LGBT Studies program, as well as her innovative scholarship and teaching in queer studies. The Michael Lynch Service Award is meant, in Eve Kosofky Sedgwick's words, "to publicize and celebrate – as widely as possible – the range, the forms, the energy, and the history of queer activism in academics."

Bisexual desires are sometimes transient and they are still poorly understood. Men and women ... appear to differ in the frequency of bisexual attractions. "The last thing you want," said Dr. Randall Sell, an assistant professor of clinical socio-medical sciences at Columbia University, "is for some therapists to see this study and start telling bisexual people that they're wrong, that they're really on their way to homosexuality."

It has been suggested that the word "bisexual" should be limited to describing behaviour, and the word "bi" could be used for describing identity, with all the cultural implications which have grown up in the bi community. The word "nice" has ... been suggested for this role :-) Since the word "bisexual" can be used in different ways, it is enough to bear this in mind and make it clear how YOU are using it, in the interests of good communication.
