A Birthday Party is fun when you're the attending, but when you are the host they can be overwhelming. You know your kids will listen, but the neighbors kid, look out. What a handful. Most parents look for activities to entertain the kids. It can be a simple game like hot potato to a craft project. Other parents will hire a professional balloon entertainer to come and keep the kids entertained at the birthday party, while other parents will spend a small fortune renting out an arcade and letting the kids run wild.

Several groups rose from the Birthday Party's ashes: Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds (featuring Cave, Harvey, Adamson and Bargeld), Crime and the City Solution (featuring Harvey and Howard, later just Harvey) and These Immortal Souls (featuring Howard). All of these bands shared a similar aesthetic, though perhaps they showed unequal deftness in expressing it.
