Biomes: Animals
built 253 days ago
Freshwater biomes are filled with water that is not salty. There are two kinds of freshwater biomes. Rivers and streams have slow-moving or still water. Less wildlife grows in rivers and streams because it is washed away by the current of water. Some freshwater animals have adapted to living in rivers so they are not carried away by the current. Fish swim upstream, other creatures hold onto rocks using suckers or slime.
Closer to the major landmasses are the biomes of the continental shelves. There the water is warm compared with that of the open ocean, and the nutrient supply is relatively high. This flow of nutrients is fed partly by rivers that empty into the seas but ... by the occasional rising of deeper, richer waters to the surface. Not surprisingly, then, phytoplankton and animal life are highly productive here, and continental shelf regions such as those of the Grand Banks off northeastern North America offer highly abundant and commercially important fisheries.

The front page features a world map showing the locations of each of the ten biomes highlighted, along with a chart showing what percent of the earth's land surface each biome occupies. Pages about each biome highlight the animals and climate. Multiple photographs, which can be enlarged, complete the pages.
The Maryland Zoo accepted your proposals for biomes and all the biomes were created. A few years later, a hurricane struck and the biomes were damaged. One animal escaped from each biome.
