Bingo: Bingo Game
built 642 days ago
Bingo can be traced back to a game called Lotto, played in Italy around the year 1530. The name bingo comes from a modification of the word Beano, the name of a form of bingo played in the United States during the decade of the 1920s. It was called Beano because "beans" were used to mark the numbers in order to be able to re-use the cards.

The italian lotto that was about to become known and famous as "Bingo" traveled into France. In 1778 the French media was maintaining that the lotto game has touched the hearts of French intelligentsia. Albeit a little different from the game today, French lotto was very similar in rules and logic of the game. There were tokens or chips instead of numbered balls; and no computing technology existed to print random lottery cards so they were crafted with other creative approaches. There was no patterns in the French bingo by then; a player would win the game when covering a horizontal rows.
Bingo made its way to America via a carnival pitchman touring Germany. There he came across a lottery game and recognized its potential appeal as a carnival tent game. He made a few revisions to the game play, including allowing players to complete a row vertically, horizontally or diagonally in order to win. And he changed the name to Beano.
