Born in the Bronx, New York, Billy Joel is one of NY's favorite son's. The singer, songwriter, pianist is one the most popular entertainers of his time. Although his last pop album was 1993's "River of Dreams", Billy Joel occasionally delights audiences with a tour. Over recent years, he's often teamed up with fellow "Piano Man" Elton John. The two enjoyed much success together as they consistently sold out show after show. After a couple of years off Billy Joel recently announced a new solo tour with limited dates set for the U.S. in 2006.

Joel's music consistently demonstrates an affection for Beatlesque hooks and a flair for Tin Pan Alley and Broadway melodies. His fusion of two distinct eras made him a superstar in the late '70s and '80s, as he racked an impressive string of multi-platinum albums and hit singles. Born in the Bronx, Joel was raised in the Long Island suburb of Hicksville, where he learned to play piano as a child. As he approached his adolescence, Joel started to rebel, joining teenage street gangs and boxing as welterweight. He fought a total of 22 fights as a teenager, and during one of the fights, he broke his nose.

Just like ex-husband Billy Joel, who wants to sell his Centre Island estate, supermodel Christie Brinkley might have a potential buyer for her Bridgehampton property. "There has been some activity," says Susan Breitenbach, senior vice president of the Corcoran Group, who is listing Tower Hill. Brinkley is asking $30 million. "We've had a couple of good showings," says Breitenbach. Earlier this week, as Real LI reported, broker Shawn Elliott said that his venture capitalist client wants to see Joel's house a second time. In the second half of the decade, Billy Joel's recorded output became considerably more sporadic: only two studio albums would be released between 1986 and 1992, although other notable projects would keep him in the public eye during that period. On his 11th release The Bridge (1986) he enlisted the participation of several guest artists for the first time, foremost amongst which was his childhood musical influence Ray Charles, who co-wrote and co-performed the track Baby Grand. In support of the album, Joel embarked upon a world tour that included six shows in the Soviet Union -- the first officially-sanctioned appearance by an American rock act in the region since the early 1960s.
