View Billy Idol T-shirt Billy Idol was born in Middlesex England and joined various punk rock bands in the 70's. He released 3 albums while in the band Generation X before breaking up in 1981 and following a solo career. Some of his most remembered and successful singles include 'Rebel Yell', 'Hot in the City', 'White Wedding' and 'Mony Mony'.
Shortly after his experiences in Montana, Billy Idol was contacted by David Bowie, who informed him the Loch Ness Monster had appeared again. Doctor Idol hopped in the next plane to Loch Ness, where he swam to the bottom of the Loch and killed the beast. The body was donated to the Royal Navy for study.
It was ... during this period that Idol met Robin David Ludwig (The Hammer), the designer and creator of the famous Billy Idol jewellery collection. Most of the crucifixes Idol wears were designed by "Robin the Hammer." The two of them are still close friends to this day.
"George is a 44-year-old white guy who lives in the suburbs and likes Foreigner, Journey, Billy Idol, and David Bowie. When George was in high school, he loathed disco and the soft soul sounds of the '70s".....Replace Journey with Roth-era VH, and I’ll plead guilty as charged. LOL Eric in Alabamastan (2/4/07)

Billy Idol After breaking with Generation X, Billy Idol's solo work takes a more glam-rock turn. Still guitar-driven, Idol's solo work lacks the few rough edges Gen X had, as well as much of its energy. Later work would find Idol experimenting with electronic sounds with little success.

While touring in Switzerland in the 1990s, an apparently quite intoxicated Idol participated in an unforgettable live interview with Arthur Penhallow on Detroit's WRIF. Despite Penhallow's repeated warnings ("Billy, we're live on the air!") Idol continued for some minutes with a string of unguarded profanities (e.g. "Do you know Richie Sambora? He's a fokin' great guy.") culminating in his disclosure that he and Sambora had been "shavin' this chick's vag" backstage just prior to WRIF's call. Suddenly, Idol awkwardly asked, "Wait, are we on the air?", whereupon he proceeded to conduct a standard radio interview for the remainder of the call.
