Billy Idol and the big screen are no stranger. Billy was to play a major role in the Oliver Stone film "The Doors" but he was sidelined by his motorcycle accident. Billy made a big screen come back in the Adam Sandler 80's comedy the "Wedding Singer" where he played, himself.

Starting with the 1983 re-release of "White Wedding", Chrysalis issued Billy's singles with an IDOL vanity catalogue numbering system, much like Nine Inch Nails's halo numbering system. This lasted for roughly seven years and sixteen singles (including various re-issues) until the release of "Prodigal Blues" in 1990.

His attempt to re-brand his image on 1993's Cyberpunk was a notable commercial and critical failure, and the following year Idol narrowly escaped death a second time when he overdosed. He laid low until the end of the decade when he made a cameo appearance in the Adam Sandler comedy The Wedding Singer.
