Billy Idol: Steve Stevens
built 622 days ago
Billy Idol (born William Michael Albert Broad) is a British hard rock singer-songwriter and musician. With his spiked peroxide blonde hair, sneering visage and a voice capable of singing growling rock and roll and crooning ballads, Idol became a cultural icon during the 1980's. He first achieved fame as the lead singer of the first-wave UK punk band Generation X. When that band broke up, Idol moved to New York where he met guitarist Steve Stevens.

Billy Idol is a living blueprint for VH1's Behind the Music. He has a culturally significant past (the Bromley Contingent), a failed but influential first band (Generation X), solo superstardom, excesses that nearly killed him (motorcycle accident, drug overdose), a clever comeback (The Wedding Singer), a well-received new album (Devil's Playground), and has always maintained a sense of humor about his place in history. Taking the stage in Cleveland with the partner in his most successful endeavors, guitarist Steve Stevens, Idol gyrated, teased, joked, and delivered exactly the kind of show you hope to see from an aging rock icon.

OK, OK, Billy Idol does'nt get many spins 'round here anymore. He's collectin' dust somewhere near the Kiss discs. But, this remake of the old William Bell soul ramp is a nice slice of Idol's best moment. Ragtime piano, hot backup singers, and a super-synthed up lead axe passage (ala Steve Stevens) creates a very rewatchable vid. Dig in.... MORE

BILLY IDOL has been working on his first studio album in over a decade and lining up a handful of live shows to promote the album. Seems Idol and longtime guitarist Steve Stevens teamed up with veteran producer John Kalodner, who has fostered careers of such acts as BON JOVI and AEROSMITH. Even though no release date has been set for the album, Kalodner said that it will hit stores sometime "in winter or spring of 2005." According to Kalodner, "the style will be classic Billy Idol hit songs. He invented an amazing style and he's sticking to it." Idol has the following shows scheduled: September 10 - Temecula, CA - Pechanga Resort & Casino 12 - Alpine, CA - Viejas Casino (outdoors) 15 - Phoenix, AZ - Dodge Theatre 17 - Las Vegas, NV - Mandalay Bay Resort.

Billy was ... dating dancer Perri Lister who became a major influence on his music. Perri was one of the original Blitz Kids along with Steve Strange. She had also been a dancer with Hot Gossip on the Kenny Everett show during the late 70's in England. She had starred in several music videos with Duran Duran and Def Leppard, and even started her own girl group called, "Boomerang." Even though Billy was never totally loyal to Perri

He first achieved fame as the lead singer of the first-wave UK punk band Generation X. When that band broke up, Idol moved to New York where he met guitarist Steve Stevens. The two of them set out to make punk music "sexier", recording a series of hit singles. A series of stylish music videos made him one of the first stars of MTV. His success has waned since the 1990s, but Idol continues to make music.
