Bill Gates had genius written all over him as a child. The most famous story is how at the age of 10, he had his older sister sign a contract granting him unbarred access to her baseball glove for $5. Though he never set out to portray himself as the world's best computer programmer (he hasn't written a piece of code since Diff'rent Strokes was on TV), employees are stunned at his capacity to analyze and correctly diagnose software glitches, and his uncanny knowledge of even the latest innovative programming code.

Being born into a wealthy family didn’t mean that Bill Gates had his world handed to him on a silver platter. Although his parents did pay for his schooling, they did not endow him with any trust funds or invest in any of his business ventures. In elementary and high school, he excelled in math and sciences. It was in high school that he was commissioned to write programming with other students for a national company called COBOL. Following his preparatory schooling, he scored well enough on his tests to attend Harvard with a focus on computer science.
