Insight: At this point it looks like Bill Elliott is the leading candidate to replace Jarrett in the #88 Ford next season. Elliott would be able to run a limited schedule, perhaps as many as 12 races, while Yates allows the youngsters to race in a handful of events to determine who deserves the fulltime ride in 2008.
The last time Bill Elliott was at Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS) for a NASCAR Nextel Cup race, he was perched in the media complex serving as a radio commentator. That was back in March when the Dawsonville, Ga. native snapped a driving streak of 49 consecutive Cup races at the track he calls home.

Bill Elliott, 2007 Bill Elliott started off the 2007 season in a rocking chair, happily content with life outside the track. Or was he?
