"Big Chief" is a song composed by Earl King in the early 1960s. It became a hit for Professor Longhair in 1964, featuring a whistled first chorus in a rollicking blues piano style and subsequent lyrics written in a mock-American Indian accent. The tune became very popular in New Orleans, frequently performed by local musicians such as Dr. John, and is now a staple of the repertory of most brass bands and musicians in the area.

Big Chief customers have access to raised and covered private viewing areas with beverage concessions and restrooms at the two main stages, Acura and Gentilly. Seating is first-come, first-served. At 3 other stages, Big Chief ticketholders will have semi-private access to a viewing area at the Congo Square/State Of Louisiana Stage, at ground level in front of the stage, and at side-stage viewing areas at the Jazz Tent and the Southern Comfort Blues Tent.

Big Chief has 72 RV sites most of which level, will accommodate big rigs, and have full hookups. Most of the sites are pull through and have limited shade. None of the sites are on the water, but they do have good views of Lake Buchanan and the sunsets will be fantastic.
