Preview: Big Chief Mountain is the high point of the ridge radiating northeast from Tyee–Mill Creek saddle at Stevens Pass ski area. A brief passage through the ski area elevates the backcountry skier above the din onto open slopes and gladed forest to brief solitude and lofty views of Jim Hill Mountain. Difficulties: High avalanche potential; snowboarders need snowshoes.
