BIG BROTHER 8 follows the relationships and conflicts of players who live together in a house outfitted with dozens of cameras and microphones recording their every move 24 hours a day. One by one, the houseguests will vote each other out of the house. At the end of three months, the last remaining houseguest will receive the grand prize. BIG BROTHER 8 is executive produced by Emmy Award winner Allison Grodner and Rich Meehan, in association with Endemol U.S.A.

Each year, the national members and affiliated organizations of Privacy International present the "Big Brother" awards to the government and private sector organisations which have done the most to threaten personal privacy in their countries. Since 1998, over forty ceremonies have been held in sixteen countries and have given out hundreds of awards to some of the most powerful government agencies, individuals and corporations in those countries.

Rivera, 26, was awarded Big Brothers Big Sisters' highest honor in June 2007. She has been mentoring her "Little Sister" Ariana for three years despite two significant obstacles. Ariana's household does not have a phone and her mother does not speak English while Rivera does not speak Spanish. The two have created a system of weekly visits scheduled at the same time, and the system has not failed.
