Betty Grable was born at 3858 Lafayette Ave. in St. Louis and moved to the Forest Park Hotel in 1920. She entered Clark's Dancing School at age 3 and attended Mary Institute. When only 12 she went to Hollywood and got her first film role the next year. She acted in 42 films, including Tin Pan Alley, Moon Over Miami and Coney Island. Because of her world-renowned swimsuit poster, owned by one out of every five U.S. servicemen in World War II, her legs were insured for $1,000,000. Betty Grable was Hollywood's top draw in 1943, and was reported to be the highest paid woman in the United States.
Betty Grable is born in St. Louis, Missouri. Grable, trained as an actress and dancer, began appearing in Hollywood musicals in her teens. She signed with RKO, where she played in B movies until she moved to Paramount in 1937. During World War II, she suddenly became a top box office draw and was voted "favorite pin-up girl" by American servicemen. Paramount famously insured her legs for $1 million and featured her in movies titled "Million Dollar Legs" and "Pin-Up Girl." She continued to make movies until the mid 1950s and later appeared in nightclubs and Broadway musicals.

MENTION musicals of Hollywood's Golden Age, and people think of all those Technicolor spectaculars with Garland, Grable, Astaire, Hayworth and Kelly. But Tinseltown in the 1930s and 1940s ... ground out hundreds of tune-filled, black-and-white, low-budget delights that aren't available on DVD - and almost never show up on TV.

At thirteen, Betty was chosen for the chorus in "Let’s Go Places." The law at the time stated that girls had to be over fifteen to dance in the chorus, but Betty possessed forged documentation to say that she was old enough to perform. In her next show... her true age was discovered, and her contract duly terminated.

Amusing musical comedy stars Betty Grable and MacDonald Carey as a bickering showbiz couple whose offstage antics harm their stage production, especially her bout of "amnesia." Also starring Eddie Albert, Fred Clark, and a young Rory Calhoun. Excellent quality.
