Bernhard Langer: Play
built 617 days ago
Langer was taken to the hospital in Hamburg on Wednesday for a kidney stone and surgeons had to repair the lining of his kidney. The surgeons will have to do another surgery next week to actually remove the stone. He hopes to next play at the KLM Open on August 23-26, where his son Stefan is in the field.
[H]ere, Langer was reunited with the 15th hole. It was there in 1993 that he gambled with a second shot over the water and was rewarded with an eagle three. Co-leader Chip Beck played safe, took his par, and Langer finally won by four shots. Beck's career was never the same.

Langer sounds as if he understands the challenge awaiting him. He made the obligatory joke about playing with guys his own age - instead of watching 20-something players out-drive him by 60 yards - but he ... stopped well short of any Joe Namath-like guarantees.

"I need to putt better and right now I don't feel like I can make all of those putts you need to make," Langer said, before setting the disclaimer. "If I play my game with very little mistakes, if I play well, I still feel like I can win. Sure."

"Some of the guys in the locker room kidded me and said, 'Why don't you find somewhere else to play'," Langer said. "I'll play one more and decide what I'm going to do next year."
