Bernhard Langer: Masters Tournament
built 645 days ago
"I was just on a high, obviously, after winning my first major," said Langer, the last player to play in the Heritage after winning the Masters until he duplicated the double in 1993. "Going down there and being fortunate enough to win again was great. It was pretty neat to win back-to-back.
Langer received a sponsors exemption to play this week and he made the most of it. The T-9 is his second top-ten in five events this year. Bernhard has twice won the Masters and he might be cheap in salary cap games for next week's first Major.
Langer made it back to the Butler Cabin in 1993 with a four-shot victory at the Masters, the widest margin of victory in 10 years at Augusta National. Fred Couples helped him put on the green jacket. Then came the live interview with CBS, and a question about how special it was to win the Masters for a second time.

Langer's battle with his putter is legendary. That he was able to rejoin the PGA Tour in 2000, after a 10-year absence, is testimony to the man's perseverance - and his conversion to a long putter. But he still hasn't won on US soil since the 1993 Masters - his second - and has won only twice on the European tour in the past six years.

Langer earned $255,000 (€179,919). Earlier this year, the two-time Masters winner lost a playoff to Rory Sabbatini in the PGA Tour's Colonial in Fort Worth. Langer isn't sure how he'll manage the regular and senior tours next year.

Bernhard Langer [I]t wasn't long after that that Langer turned pro. In fact, Langer turned pro at age 15 in 1972. Just two years later he won his first professional tournament, the 1974 German National Open Championship. He won the German National again in 1977 and 1979. Over the years, Langer would win the German National a total of 13 times.
