Bernhard Langer: Champions Tour
built 646 days ago
Langer finished T-10 at last week's Wachovia Championship and it was his third top-10 of the year. He is having a great year and might want to reconsider jumping to the Champions Tour at the end of August. Langer has a long history at The Players going back to 1984 and his best recent finish here was a third in 2001.
Langer seems like a logical candidate to make an instant splash on the 50-and-over circuit. Not only has he won more than 60 times worldwide in his career, he won by carving up courses, not overpowering them. Kenny Perry, 47, predicted Langer will dominate the Champions Tour, where few players hit the ball into orbit.

Langer, 49, is in just his third PGA Tour event of the season, having lost his full exemption last year after finishing 138th on the money list. Although he was given a sponsor's exemption to this week's PODS Championship at Innisbrook, it no longer was necessary when he finished tied for 10th at the Honda Classic on Sunday.

During his spectacular career, Langer has been forced to combat the dreaded putting 'yips' on more than one occasion. Every time he has found the cure and emerged stronger than ever. Five of his 42 European Tour victories have been achieved in tandem with the long broomhandle putter which he mastered with painstaking diligence.

Langer still could have joined the playoffs this week, but he preferred to christen his Champions Tour career on the Monterey Peninsula. He would miss next month's Tour Championship, anyway - it conflicts with the European Tour event he hosts in Germany - and he refuses to play four consecutive weeks, because that's too much time away from his family.
