Beretta had two major contracts, about 500,000 units for the U.S. armed forces and about 230,000 units for the French armed forces. In the case of the Beretta 92G, it was agreed that the French would supply the slide steel to Italy until GIAT could start licensed production.

Today, under the leadership of Ugo and his sons Franco and Pietro, Beretta is combining its unprecedented tenure of experience with the latest technologies. Beretta now produces about 1500 pieces per day including over-and-under and side-by-side shotguns, autoloaders and pump actions, express double rifles, semiautomatic pistols and assault rifles. Over 95% of Beretta firearms are used for shooting sports with nearly 100 countries importing them. A little over a decade ago, Beretta added a complete range of accessories and apparel for hunting, clay shooting and other outdoor sports. In 1995, Beretta opened the first Beretta Gallery in New York and quickly followed its success with stores in Dallas, Buenos Aires, Paris and Milan. Dedicated work, ingenuity and traditional craftsmanship, combined with ongoing research, technology and state of the art manufacturing methods, continue to foster Beretta’s worldwide fame.

The Beretta semiautomatic UGB25 Xcel features an innovative locking system with break-open barrel that allows operation in complete safety during competitions. Unlike conventional fixed-barrel semiautomatic shotguns, this new type of break-open design enables the shooter to move from one firing station to another while allowing others to see the gun clearly in "safe" mode with an open action. The second round is not hidden from view inside the magazine tube, but is always visible in its side cartridge carrier. The low-set single barrel offers the advantage of maintaining the same point of impact of the second shot exactly in line with that of the first shot... ensuring excellent performance.

The Beretta 92 was designed for sports and law enforcement use and, due to its reliability, was accepted by military users in South America. A large contract for the Beretta 92 was with the Brazilian army, for which Beretta set up a factory in Brazil. This factory was later sold to the Brazilian gunmaker Taurus. Taurus made pistols under license from Beretta based on the original Beretta 92, calling it the PT92.
