Mussolini and his generals attempted to keep secret their use of chemical weapons, but it was revealed to the world through the denunciations of the International Red Cross and of many foreign observers. The Italian reaction to these revelations consisted in the allegedly "erroneous" bombardment (at least 19 times) of Red Cross tents posted in the areas of military encampment of the Ethiopian resistance.

Mussolini was caught yesterday at Dongo, Lake Como, driving by himself in a car with his uniform covered by a German greatcoat. He was driving in a column of German cars to escape observation but was recognised by an Italian Customs guard.

Maybe the most conniving, two faced bamboozler in all of modern political history, Benito Mussolini was a man of means. These means were not financial, rather, the product of years of political alchemy. Whatever the road, whatever the requirement, Mussolini managed to elevate himself through varied moral and socioeconomic dogmas to to top of the Italian Government, and in doing so left the country he so desired to rule in shambles.
