France's Bolloré group has begun negotiations with authorities in the port of Cotonou, with a view to taking over the management of port, according to Benin's transport minister Armand Zinzindohoue. Head of State, Thomas Yayi Boni, met Michel Roussin, vice-president of the French group during a meeting about imminent investment by the Bolloré group.

Formerly a French colony, Dahomey gained its independence from France in 1960, and in 1975, changed its name to Benin. The country struggled through 12 years of coups and countercoups until a group of army officers headed by Mathieu Kerekou took power.

The group is ... planning a microfinance due diligence trip to Ghana and Benin in August led by Leslie Lake and Barbara Lucas. "With this trip, we hope to see firsthand what works and what does not," said Barbara Lucas, a co-sponsor of the symposium. "Ultimately, we will bring back the lessons we learned and apply this knowledge to HWW's capital campaign and our work with leading organizations in microfinance."
