Ben Affleck: Project Greenlight
built 230 days ago
Ben caught the acting bug early on, appearing in ads for Burger King and public TV project The Voyage Of The Mimi. Convinced by his mother Chris, a Radcliffe graduate and state system schoolteacher, that college was the best plan, he enrolled at the University of Vermont. He lasted just one semester... before decamping to Los Angeles.

Affleck supports a non-profit organization called the A-T Childrens Project.[11] He started supporting the A-TCP after meeting Joe Kindregan when filming Forces of Nature. Kindregan, who was then 9 years old, has a rare disease called ataxia-telangiectasia (A-T). Affleck has attended benefits and spoken to Congress to advocate for the A-T Childrens Project. The disease, described as like having muscular dystrophy, cystic fibrosis, immune deficiency and cancer all at once, is progressive; children with A-T usually do not live beyond their late teens. In 2007, Affleck was the keynote speaker at the Graduation Ceremony for Falls Church High School at the GMU Patriot Center. Of his best friend and graduating senior Joe Kindregan, Affleck mentions that though Kindregan is bound to a wheelchair, through his perseverance he has taught Affleck, "How to stand."

Affleck is ... staying busy as a producer, working on the third installment of "Project Greenlight." The series, which follows the making of a film, will debut on Bravo in January, and the film will hit theaters in the spring.

Perhaps there's someone else smoldering under Affleck's vanilla multiplex persona. After all, Affleck says he has an indie heart -- he takes big-budget roles only so he can afford to finance his beloved small projects, like "Dogma" (good, but not sexy) or his surprisingly well-executed role as a charisma-free boor in "Shakespeare in Love." Maybe he's really a dangerous indie stud underneath it all, the ultimate subversive. (And maybe he's sleeping with J.Lo to improve his chances with Janeane Garofalo?)

Project Greenlight is a joint venture between Affleck and Matt Damon. A contest was held with the winning screenwriter given the opportunity to direct their original screenplay, and have it distributed by Miramax.
