Affleck was highly publicized, with the media dubbing them "Bennifer". Lopez announced her engagement to Affleck in November 2002, after Affleck gave her a six-carat pink diamond ring worth a reported $1.2 million.[30] Lopez promised interviewers that Affleck was indeed "the one", and that they would soon have a family. The marriage, planned for September 14, 2003 in Santa Barbara, California, was called off just hours before the event. During the week before the scheduled nuptials, Affleck had been seen by press carousing at a strip club in Vancouver with friends. The media blitz intensified when it was Lopez's own sister who called in live radio to tell Lopez where her fiancé had been the previous night. Lopez would only respond by saying it was a terrible way to begin the day, finding out about Affleck's behavior in that manner.

Affleck subsequently dated his Daredevil co-star, actress Jennifer Garner, and the two were engaged after nine months of seeing each other. In May 2005, it was announced that Garner was pregnant and the couple were married on June 29, 2005 on the Caribbean islands of Turks and Caicos. Garner gave birth to a daughter, Violet Anne Affleck, on December 1, 2005 in Los Angeles, California. Affleck has a holiday home in Savannah, Georgia. The family was in Cambridge for the summer while Affleck was directing Gone, Baby, Gone.[9]
The pressure of constant scrutiny and Affleck’s gradual decline from Oscar winner to the butt of late night TV jokes came to a head with the announcement that he and Lopez’s engagement was off. Publicly penitent over the creative failures of "Daredevil" and "Gigli" and the overexposure of all things “Bennifer,” Affleck tried to rally at the end of 2003 with "Paycheck," a John Woo-directed sci-fi thriller based on a Phillip K. Dick premise, with Affleck playing a brilliant computer engineer whose short term memory is erased to protect government secrets. Competently made and a modest hit at the box office, "Paycheck" ... did little to diffuse Affleck's tabloid headlines. In early 2004, the Affleck-Lopez romance was officially kaput, followed by the unfortunately timed release of the couple’s second onscreen pairing, Kevin Smith's romantic comedy "Jersey Girl" (2004). The film's marketing team tried to downplay Lopez's small role in the middling film, which was not nearly the commercial, creative or critical disaster "Gigli" was. Affleck played a hard-driving, city-dwelling publicist who finds himself a widowed father suddenly trapped in the suburbs and unexpectedly getting a second chance at love. Despite an admirable effort from Affleck, the film suffered from guilt-by-Bennifer-association – spelling box office doom for Smith’s passion project.

Since first landing as a Fly Girl in "In Living Color," Lopez has worked with such leading men and heart throbs as Woody Harrelson, Wesley Snipes, Jack Nicholson, George Clooney, Ice Cube, Jon Voight, Ralph Fiennes and her fiance Ben Affleck. Her movie credentials include "Mi Familia," "Money Train," "Jack," "Blood and Wine," "U-Turn," "Anaconda," "Out of Sight," "Cell," "Angel Eyes," "Enough," "The Wedding Planner," and the upcoming releases "Gigli," "Maid in Manhattan" and "Jersey Girl."
Ben Affleck at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los A... "Gigli" comprised the middle chapter in a publicity nightmare for Affleck and Lopez, who met on the "Gigli" set. By the time they began filming "Jersey Girl" a year ago last fall, their blossoming romance drove paparazzi into paroxysms. Last February, Affleck's "Daredevil" pulled in $102 million at the box office, but that seemed a mere footnote compared with the $1.2 million engagement ring he gave Lopez, the interview they gave together to Barbara Walters and the brouhaha that peaked in September when Affleck and Lopez canceled their wedding in Santa Barbara.
