Other areas of Belize are generally safe as well, but like any other place in the world, one should always have some skepticism when dealing with strangers. Most are genuinely helpful, but it never hurts to be cautious. Belize City south side is beautiful as well as dangerous. Otherwise, Belize city is a great place to go if you want to eat learn or shop.

These stats are for Belize City, but most of the coastal areas people visit are close and have similar climates. The cities that are further inland usually have slightly hotter days and noticeably cooler nights, but generally are similar. So daytime temperatures can start feeling extreme during April in the inland areas, but nights tend to be pleasant throughout the country. The warm nights on the coast are usually offset by pleasant sea breezes, and the lower evening temperatures inland are mild enough that sleeping with no air conditioner is still okay for most people.

On December 30, Albert Pennil was shot to death outside a restaurant in Belize City. The next day police arrested three suspects, one of whom was police constable Kevin Alvarez. In November 2001, the authorities fired Alvarez from the police force after a number of complaints about his behavior, including his alleged involvement in a lethal shooting and a beheading, but rehired him early in the year. Alvarez was expected to appear in court in January 2003.

Several competing buslines operate on the main road in the north-south direction from Punta Gorda to Belmopan and Belize City. Two airlines, Tropic Air and Maya Island Air, serve most towns on a daily basis and if you are trying to get to Ambergris Caye where San Pedro is there are water taxis at the boat terminal in Belize city. Tropic air and Maya Air fly out of Belize City municipal airport and Phillip Goldson international airport, as well as other airports in Belize.
