Belinda Carlisle

Belinda Carlisle might have been the sexiest female singer of the '80s, and her alto vibrato was just as alluring as her American-girl glow. But she's been MIA since 1996, lounging in southern France, where she perfected her delivery of the most romantic of all Romance languages for this all-French album. (Early pressings feature a bonus EP of four English adaptations.)

Owner of a very successful career that reaches around the globe, Belinda Carlisle released her first new solo album in nearly ten years. The album, "Voila," was released on February 6, 2007 in the United States, and one day earlier, February 5, in the United Kingdom. This album represents Belinda's first all-French album. Belinda believes that artists do not need to understand the French language to emote French songs. The language of song is universal and those listening to the French album will still understand the meaning the song is trying to convey. Belinda, having been born in Hollywood, California, in 1958, now divides her time between homes in England and France.

Belinda Carlisle started her music career with a brief career as a drummer in the punk band ‘The Germs’ and was known as Dottie Danger. However, in the later times she could not perform with the band live due to her illness. After leaving the Punk Band she founded The Go-Go’s with Jane Wiedlin, which was at first called The Misfits. Charlotte Caffey, Kathy valentine, Gina Schock were the other members of the team. In a few days Go-Go’s became one of the most popular bands in America during the 1980s. The band leads the New World music era of American radio.

If Belinda Carlisle isn't remembered primarily for being the lead vocalist of the Los Angeles-based Go-Go's it will probably be for her two hit solo recordings, "Mad About You" or "Heaven Is A Place On Earth." After leaving The Go-Go's, Belinda pursued a solo career. As a soloist, she shed her new-wave psuedo-punk stylings and re-emerged as a polished pop singer. Gone was the chubby cherub-faced vocalist so many Go-Go's fans came to adore and in her place a viable solo hit-maker blossomed. Her first album, BELINDA, went gold and featured the tune "Mad About You." The tune rocketed to number 3 on the pop charts.

In 1986 Carlisle married Morgan Mason, son of the British actor James Mason and former Deputy United States Chief of Protocol. Morgan made appearances in Carlisle's videos "Mad About You" and "Heaven Is a Place on Earth". They have a son, James Duke Mason, (born April 27, 1992). She has been reported as being "deeply into Buddhist chanting", though precisely what form is unclear.[2]
