Belinda Carlisle pursued a solo career after leaving the Go-Go's in 1984. As her solo career progressed, Carlisle removed any of the rough edges remaining in her style, transforming from a new wave rocker to a polished adult contemporary pop singer. The change was evident on her first album, 1986's Belinda. Featuring the number three hit single "Mad About You," the record went gold and established her as a viable hitmaker. The following year, Carlisle released Heaven on Earth, her greatest solo success. Continuing the immaculately produced mainstream pop of Belinda, the record featured the number one title track, the number two single "I Get Weak," and the Top Ten ballad "Circle in the Sand." Runaway Horses, released in 1989, was another successful album, spawning the hit singles "Leave a Light On" and "Summer Rain," yet it showed signs that her audience was shrinking.
Belinda Carlisle’s Voila, her first new album in a decade, and her first record sung entirely in French, is a radical departure for the pop diva and lead singer of the Go-Go’s. Working with producer John Reynolds (U2, Sinéad O’Connor, Indigo Girls), Carlisle has fashioned a traditional pop album that pays tribute to the classic French chansons and pop music of the ‘40s, ‘50s and ‘60s. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, the album is set for release on February 6, 2007 (February 5 in the UK). The first pressing of Voila will be a limited edition containing a bonus disc of four songs from the album in English.

belinda carlisle booking agent Jane Wiedlin and Belinda Carlisle met and began a band called the Misfits. Charlotte Caffey, Elissa Bello, Margo Olaverra, Jane Wiedlin and Belinda were the original members of the band (Elissa Bello would be replaced by Gina Schock and in 1980 Margo was replaced by Kathy Valentine due to health reasons). Originally the band was a new wave band and played for awhile in the LA Punk scenes. By 1979 the band would change their name to The Go-Gos and leave the punk rock scenes for the Pop industry. By 1980 the band was opening for the likes of Madness in the UK and the following year would see the release of their first album "Beauty And The Beat" which would take the US by storm and remain in number 1 spot for six weeks. With their first album reaching double-platinum, the Go-Gos would make history by becoming the first all female band to hit the top 10 in US charts.
