As Beijing razes entire neighborhoods to make way for Olympic construction, most of the storied old hutongs (lanes) are getting renovated and drained of character. One supposed exception is South Gong and Drum Lane, profiled approvingly in the New York Times. A noted favorite in this "bit of authentic bohemia" is the Pass-By Bar, which sounds totally copacetic, until you encounter a two-year-old but still caustic review from an apparently Beijing website called gou-rou.com:

BEIJING, Nov. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Boeing (NYSE: BA) and Air China yesterday celebrated the delivery of the 150th Boeing airplane to Air China. The new Boeing Next-Generation 737-800 is the first airplane in China to feature the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games livery highlighting the official mascots -- the five "Fuwa" animal cartoon characters.
