Bebo is the 85th most popular English-language website (at 1 June 2007) according to Alexa Internet[6]. According to Hitwise, Bebo is the third most popular social networking website but has only a 1.18% share of the market[7]. Bebo ... announced on March 17, 2007 that it was the most popular website in Ireland[8], however, as of October 7, 2007, Bebo dropped to second, behind Google.ie[9]. As of September 2007 Alexa ranked it as the 11th most popular site in the UK with MySpace occupying 9th place and Facebook 3rd place. In the U.S. however, it was not in the top 100 at that point. Bebo was also listed as the number one term most representative of search trends on Google in 2006[10].

If Bebo is hoping to bank on the open movement, now would be a pretty good time, as the promise and momentum of it all hasn’t begun to falter. While Bebo’s estimated value of $1 billion + is still a few billion shy of Facebook’s $15 billion valuation. Nevertheless, there are still a lot of companies out there that would like to have their own powerful social network. Bebo continues to grow in the U.S. and as social networks like MySpace get more involved with traditional media (in a sense), an SNS like Bebo is ... highly attractive to a large media company.

Bebo has more than 450,000 bands registered on its site which makes it incredibly easy for great talent to spread. Bebo signed a deal last month with digital music company 7digital for a new widget that will allow Bebo's 31 million users to share their music tastes. In-line with Bebo's policy the partnership will enable users to legitimately download music licensed by 7digital directly from their Bebo user profiles.

With the integration of AIM with Bebo, an AIM icon will now automatically appear on a Beboer's profile, and will indicate if the user is signed on to AIM and available to chat. Beboers, regardless of whether they have an AIM screen name, can then initiate an instant message directly from a Bebo profile. Using the new AIM(R) Friend Finder, Bebo users can invite AIM buddies to Bebo in two easy steps, by first entering their own screen name and password and then choosing which buddies to invite.
