Beavis and Butt-head is an American animated television series created by Mike Judge. The show originally aired on the cable television channel MTV from 1993 to 1997. It has won many fans due to what was generally considered to be deliberately unintelligent and crude nature. It is rated TV-14 in the United States. Reruns of the series are occasionally shown on MTV2 and Comedy Central. Each show contains short cartoons centering on a pair of post-pubescent teenagers, Beavis and Butt-head, who live in the town of Highland, Texas.

The MTV Thanksgiving Special "Beavis and Butt-head Do Thanksgiving" aired on November 27, 1997. The bit featured Kurt Loder as the show's host, half-reluctantly and half-resigned, trying to teach the two characters the meaning of Thanksgiving as they report live from the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City, where they take more interest in people's butts and porn-shops than anything else. Amongst others, the special featured appearances by Adam Sandler, LL Cool J, Jay-Z, R.E.M., Ozzy Osbourne, Marilyn Manson, Ol' Dirty Bastard, Tori Amos, and the Beastie Boys. Also featured were two music videos ("Long Hard Road Out of Hell" by Marilyn Manson and "Criminal" by Fiona Apple) not included in any of the show's regular episodes. The Thanksgiving special only aired once, and its inclusion in the Mike Judge Collection DVD set only shows it in a heavily censored format without the music videos or the celebrity appearances.

Beavis and Butt-head was first aired on the U.S. cable network MTV in March 1993. This show, which combined animation and music videos, was an example of the unique programming that MTV has consistently provided for its youthful demographics. The half-hour program alternated between a simple narrative, which focused on the exploits of two low-life adolescents, and clips from music videos, which the two teens commented on. Creator Mike Judge had penned the aimless duo for a festival of animation when Abby Turkuhle, MTV's senior vice president picked up an episode for the network's animated compendium Liquid Television. MTV immediately contracted for 65 episodes from Judge, with Turkuhle as producer, and placed Beavis and Butt-head [I]n the 7:00 and 11:00 P.M. week-day time slots.

Beavis and Butt-Head were the poster boys for Generation X in the mid-1990s. They were who the nation could turn to when they needed to sort things into a rigid sucks/cool duality.
