- Harry Potter Pictures
Soon afterwards, Daniel Radcliffe was cast as Harry Potter by director, Chris Columbus in the film that hit theatres in November 16, 2001, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. He was recognized worldwide after this film was released pleasing audiences and critics everywhere. Filming on its sequel, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002) commenced shortly afterwards. He appeared again as Harry in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) directed by Alfonso Cuarón, and will ... be in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005). - Patricia Routledge -- Vera Small
Patricia Routledge and Prunella Scales star in this popular follow-up to Radio 4's Ladies of Letter and Ladies of More Letters. The third series of the hilarious show, and Vera and Irene's correspondence is as coruscating as ever..... - Claire Bloom -- Career
Although her career in recording is obviously just a small footnote to everything Claire Bloom accomplished as an actress, at least she brought great comfort to many small children. To a child tucked away in a bed trying to maintain a comfort level in the ever deepening darkness, her voice might just do the trick, wafting across the room from a set of speakers. She might be telling the story of Dick Whittington and His Cat from one of a series of children's storytelling records she made for the Caedmon label, material including the Brothers Grimm, Beatrix Potter, and traditional British fairy tales. It was a period when her popularity with children peaked as a result of her appearance in the 1962 fairy tale blockbuster The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm. She began acting while still a child herself, considered talented enough while still taking drama lessons to be involved in some BBC radio broadcasts when she was only 14. It was that wonderful voice of hers, already getting attention. - Patricia Routledge -- No Importance
In 1990, Routledge landed the high-profile role of Hyacinth Bucket in the comedy series Keeping Up Appearances. She portrayed a former working-class woman with social pretensions (insisting her surname be pronounced "bouquet") and visions of grandeur (her often-mentioned but never-seen "candlelight suppers"). She was nominated for two BAFTA TV Awards in 1992 and 1993. The series ended at Routledge's request in 1995. - Emily Watson
For fans of Emily Watson, Trixie is a must see. Without doubt, this picture is fluffy stuff, light and tasty and perhaps easily forgotten. But this film marks a breakthrough in Watson career. A screwball comedy! Reviewers agree that Watson is luminescent and adorable as Trixie. It's the smartest career move she could take. - Illustration
Illustration of fiction was more popular in the 19th cent. than in the 20th. Dickenss works were illustrated by John Leech, H. K. Browne (Phiz), and George Cruikshank. Sir John Tenniels illustrations for Alices Adventures in Wonderland are almost as well known as the text itself. Today much of the finest illustration is done in the field of childrens literature. From Beatrix Potter to Ludwig Bemelmans and Maurice Sendak, a number of gifted writers of childrens stories have illustrated their own books. Among the great illustrators of childrens books are Kate Greenaway, Walter Crane, Randolph Caldecott, Edward Lear, Ernest Shepherd, Palmer Cox, A. B. Frost, and Wanda Gág (see childrens book illustration). - Anthropomorphism
Anthropomorphism is the attribution of uniquely human characteristics and qualities to nonhuman beings, inanimate objects, or natural or supernatural phenomena. Animals, forces of nature, games, and unseen or unknown sources of chance are frequent subjects of anthropomorphism. The term is derived from two Greek words, ἄνθρωπος ([A]nthrōpos), meaning human, and μορφή (morphē), meaning shape or form. The suffix '-ism' originates from the morpheme -ισμός or -ισμα in the Greek language. - Victorian Era
[One] great engineering feat in the Victorian Era was the sewage system in London. It was designed by Joseph Bazalgette in 1858. He proposed to build 82 miles of sewerage linked with over 1,000 miles of street sewers. Many problems were found but the sewers were completed. After this, Bazalgette designed the Thames Embankment which housed sewers, water pipes and the London Underground.
