Beanie Babies: Toys
built 131 days ago
Beanie The Beanie Babies were an inexpensive toy that children could afford. The line was retired at the end of 1999, and after a massive 91% to re-introduce the line they returned once again on March 1st 2000.
CHICAGO, May 27 The Teenie Beanie Babies promotion at McDonald's has been wildly successful. For those of you still on the hunt for the popular toys -- free with the purchase of a Happy Meal or sold with any food or drink purchase at McDonald's -- there are still toys available. The local McDonald's Owners of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana report that many Chicago locations on the North, South and West sides still have Teenie Beanie Babies. Happy Hunting!

[I]t was Cabbage Patch Kids, then Beanie Babies. Now another toy-induced craze has hit the country -- "Bean Bugs for the Millennium." BIANET, a Texas company that makes bean-stuffed cartoon characters has launched a new product line called "MicroBytes," featuring "Techie," a computer nerd that's blue in the face and "Glitch," an evil, but cuddly, Y2K bug. Each month until the millennium, the company plans to offer Glitch in a different outfit to represent a holiday or computer problem. For instance, March features "Hoarder Glitch" with a backpack containing a gallon of water, a pound of sugar, a box of penicillin, some coffee and other supplies in case the lights go out. July's "Rich Glitch" character has dollar signs for eyes and is wrapped with ticker tape.

Once students have their Beanie Babies, ask them to count the total number of Beanie Babies at their table, then add individual totals for a class total. Lead a discussion on different ways in which the Beanies could be classified. These classifications are entered into a simple database so that the Beanies can be sorted in different ways. This is a great opportunity to discuss attributes. Consider making a matrix with the attributes across the top and the names of the Beanie Babies down the side. In the cells, indicate the characteristics of the toys.
