Bavaria: States
built 657 days ago
Since World War II, Bavaria has been rehabilitated into a prosperous industrial hub. A massive reconstruction effort restored much of Munich's historic core, and the city played host to the 1972 Summer Olympics. More recently, former state minister-president Edmund Stoiber was the CDU/CSU candidate for chancellor in the 2002 federal election, and native son Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger was elected Pope Benedict XVI in 2005.

Bavaria is one of the oldest states in Europe. Here a few points of its history:about 500 p.C. the race of the Bavarians had been come into being mixed from Romans, Celtics and Teutons.1180 p.C. Otto of Wittelsbach founded the State of Bavaria.
As in other states, many of the gains made in Bavaria in early 1848 remained after the revolution had lost its influence. But a new wave of legislation, largely stemming from 1850 and after, imposed new restrictions, especially on the political use of the press and on political action in the form of clubs, parties and workers' organizations. However, political groups of all kinds had already emerged from the 1848-49 revolution in Bavaria, including right-wing, Catholic clubs like the Pius Associations and the Association for Constitutional Monarchy and Religious Freedom. Although restricted by later legislation in the years after 1849, some of these organizations survived and provided the foundations of modern political party development in Bavaria.

Bavaria, formerly backward in education, has recently done much in this connexion. The state has two Roman Catholic universities, Munich and Wurzburg, and a Lutheran, Erlangen; in Munich there are a polytechnic, an academy of sciences and an academy of art.
