Bauhaus: Band
built 622 days ago
Bauhaus go away [H]aving grown more human and more eerie, Bauhaus has unleashed Go Away White, its first studio album since 1983. Funnily enough, The Beatles are the first thing heard on the disc—specifically, the purloined bassline of "Taxman" that fuels "Too Much 21st Century." But inspirations aside, Bauhaus now sounds more like Bauhaus than it ever did—and yet it doesn't sink into self-parody, even when cannibalizing its own lyrics and death-knell guitar. While many cult bands can't make a dignified comeback to save their lives, the raw, slithering, true-to-its-roots Go Away White is more than a swansong. It's a minor masterpiece that proves Bauhaus has been nicely preserved.

Bauhaus then went to the United States, playing to crowds across the country, before releasing their latest single, “Telegram Sam.” And, finally, in 1980, the band’s debut album hit store shelves. “In The Flat Field” shot to the top of the independent charts and even appeared on the pop charts at a modest 72.
Although 4AD was neither their first nor their last home, Bauhaus have a special place in the label's history. The band released their classic first single, "Bela Lugosi's Dead", on the Small Wonder label in 1979, just as Ivo Watts-Russell was starting to put together the company that became 4AD [link to label history here]. Their second 7", "Dark Entries", duly made its appearance in early 1980 as part of the quartet of releases that marked the birth of Axis. The only one of the four that has not now vanished into obscurity, it was subsequently re-released by the nascent 4AD.

Bauhaus are an English rock band formed in Northampton in 1978. The group consists of Peter Murphy (vocals), Daniel Ash (guitar), Kevin Haskins (drums) and David J (bass). The band originally went by the name Bauhaus 1919, dropping the latter portion within a year of their formation. With their dark, gloomy sound and image, Bauhaus is generally considered the first gothic rock group.
The goth rock band would reunite for a reunion tour in 1998, and the tour was so successful Bauhaus concert tickets were hard to find. Still, the band parted ways after the tour, yet they still have a loyal following of fans who continue to count Bauhaus as the most influential band in goth rock.
