Battlestar Galactica emerged from the chaos of the Hollywood feeding frenzy which erupted in the wake of the initial success of George Lucas' Star Wars. Released in 1977, Star Wars proved that quality space opera could be produced on a relatively low budget. A sub-genre or step-child of science fiction, space opera translated the old swashbuckling adventure genre into a spaceships-and-rayguns setting. Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon were the most famous space opera heroes for decades, but their popularity helped spawn dozens of low-budget space opera movies in the 1950s.

Michael Faries of BattlestarGalactica.com has posted a new report at the Battlestar Galactica Club Forums. Michael reports that some interviews are coming up with folks associated with the game. Also, both Richard Hatch and Dirk Benedict have recorded parts for the upcoming video game. And they're participating as Apollo and (male) Starbuck who visit the young version of William Adama via time travel. The console video game is still in development, so the cameo parts may or may not be included in the final version. For the complete report and more information, be sure to check out Michael's report at the following link.
July 29, 2007 - Per usual at Comic-Con, the panel for Battlestar Galactica was received extremely warmly by the large crowd assembled. This year the cast members in attendance were all female - Mary McDonnell ("President Laura Roslin"), Katee Sackhoff ("Kara 'Starbuck' Thrace"), and Tricia Helfer ("Number Six") - and to mark the occasion the panel began with a special video clip reel paying homage to all the ladies on Battlestar, that ... included an hysterical montage of scenes where the women on the show said "Frak."

The flagship of the ragtag fleet, and humanity's remaining Battlestar, the Galactica was constructed more than 50 years before the surprise attack on the Colonies, during the first days of the First Cylon War. Galactica was one of the 12 original battlestars, each representing one of Kobol's colonies.
