On the season finale of Battlestar Galactica, the most repellent criminal in the universe is handed a get-out-of-jail-free card, while half of the supporting cast discovers they’re really Cylon sleeper agents. Both internal and external forces threaten to tear the Colonial fleet asunder, but none is so devastating as the unforgivable wait fans must now be forced to endure until Adama and crew return for their fourth season, sometime next year.

Battlestar Galactica emerged from the chaos of the Hollywood feeding frenzy which erupted in the wake of the initial success of George Lucas' Star Wars. Released in 1977, Star Wars proved that quality space opera could be produced on a relatively low budget. A sub-genre or step-child of science fiction, space opera translated the old swashbuckling adventure genre into a spaceships-and-rayguns setting. Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon were the most famous space opera heroes for decades, but their popularity helped spawn dozens of low-budget space opera movies in the 1950s.

Bigger, newer and more well-armed than the Battlestar Galactica, the Pegasus survived the initial Cylon attack on the Twelve Colonies only by jumping blindly into deep space. There, short of crew and believing herself to be the commander of the only surviving Colonial battleship, Admiral Helena Cain grew increasingly driven and violent. Running her ship with an iron fist, she brooked no challenge to her authority, and treated Cylon captives without mercy. As a result of her merciless nature, the Pegasus quickly came into conflict with the Galactica upon their chance meeting, far outside Colonial space.

The show is in the middle of its second season, still enjoying strong ratings despite some audience erosion seen across the board. series will end their first-half season run this month, and will return for new episodes in January.
