Battle of Waterloo: Earl
built 778 days ago
This battle resulted in the Norman conquest of England. Edward the Confessor, the king of England, had no sons and promised that when he died his throne would go to his cousin William, duke of Normandy. On his deathbed... the king chose Harold, the powerful earl of Wessex, as king. An enraged William rushed into battle to claim the English throne. At the battle's height, the Normans pretended to flee. When the English ran after them, the Normans turned and attacked them again.

Robinson Battle of Waterloo Napoleon had delayed the start of the battle owing to the sodden ground, which would have made manoeuvring cavalry and artillery difficult. In addition, many of his forces had bivouacked well to the south of La Belle Alliance. At 10:00, he sent a dispatch to Grouchy in answer to one he had received six hours earlier, telling him to "head for Wavre [to Grouchy's north] in order to draw near to us [to the west of Grouchy]" and then "push before him" the Prussians to arrive at Waterloo "as soon as possible".[30]
This surgical saw was used by Surgeon James Powell, of the Ordnance Medical Department, at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815 to amputate the leg of Lieutenant General Henry Paget, Earl of Uxbridge. Amputation, without anesthetic, was often the only hope for soldiers who suffered badly damaged bones. It could prevent disease setting in and in many cases resulted in a rapid recovery. The wounded soldier had a leather tourniquet tied about eight centimetres (three inches) above the place where the cutting would be done.
The MacNeils participated at the Battle of Glenlivet in October of 1594. In this battle, the Earl of Argyle was sent by King James VI to defeat the Catholic Earls. The Kings army was defeated.
