To play Battle Chess you have still got to know the rules of the game of course. You can choose between black or white (or actually blue and red in this game!) and then it’s time to play! Battle Chess can be played against the computer; there are 7 difficulty levels to play against, so there’s chess-action for the rookie as well as the chess-champion! It’s ... possible to play against a friend in two player mode.

Battle Chess is an animated chess game with three levels of difficulty vs. the computer or against a friend. Chess gurus or neophytes can play as Aslan’s army, or use the evil White Witch’s array of creatures on a 2D or 3D board. To celebrate the game’s release, IG Fun will be supporting the British Chess Championships, which run from July 29th though August 11th. They say there will be an “exciting stunt” involving Battle Chess, but details are currently under wraps.

Battle Chess is in general just a game of chess. The fair number of difficulty-levels and the addition of some nice options make this a rather good chess game for the average chess-player. But, this game's playability suffers a lot from the long loading times. These make the very slow and pretty tedious at times.

CHESS is not a game, it is a battle! CHESS - It is a good idea to be able to play Chess. If you don't know how to play chess, it's a good idea to learn. Regardless of your age, the ability to play chess is a recommended skill to have. You do not need to be a high-IQ intellectual genius to play chess, (but it helps). Chess is FUN, and ... good or bad you are at chess you are likely to find some people and/or computers who are going to lose when playing you and some that are going to win when playing you.

Battle Chess is an excellent game. Downloading onto our Windows 98 was a bit tedious but once we read the Read Me ( START, RUN, then type D:/ )from the CD and learned the right way to download it, we haven't had a problem with it. Don't use the auto install window that pops up.
