Batman: Bruce Wayne
built 622 days ago
Batman Begins Adult Costume Batman is the alter ego of the wealthy industrialist and philanthropist Bruce Wayne. As a young boy growing up in Gotham City, Bruce witnessed the crime that took his parents lives and left him an orphan. Bruce vowed to catch the man that killed his parents and embarked on a ten year journey to perfect his mind and body for the pursuit of justice. With the aid of Alfred, the Wayne family's butler and valet, Bruce completed his training and returned to Gotham City. He quickly realized that criminals had a tendency to take stock in urban legends and myths and that he would need a way to strike fear into them. Ultimately Bruce was inspired by a wayward bat and decided that becoming a bat himself was the best way to do this.

The Batman is nothing if not prepared. And to this end, his efforts have served both as the JLA's greatest salvation and their near destruction. Wayne's paranoia nearly tore the team asunder when his secret files were stolen by Talia. He never told his friends in the League about these files, exhaustive dossiers that revealed their secrets and weaknesses. Talia gave the files to her father, Ra's al Ghul, who used it to cripple the JLA. Following this, the League voted to expel Batman, though he chose to resign instead.

Costume from Batman: The Animated Series. Batman spent years keeping the people of Gotham City safe from common criminals and bizarre villains. He had several partners and occasional imitators such as Batwoman, but his most common partner was Barbara Gordon, who had officially taken the job at his side as Batgirl. While on another mission, Batman would rescue the young Tim Drake from Two-Face, who had made an attempt to kill the boy. The young boy found himself inspired by Bruce's desire to stand up to people like Two-Face. In combination with his own rebellious nature, Tim would unwittingly steal the Robin costume from the Batcave, and take up the mantle as the second Robin of the DCAU. Recieving Tim as his new sidekick, Batman gave the young boy three rules.
Batman's evolution continues through the 2000s. 1988 saw Jason Todd, the second Robin, killed by the Joker, and in the years following this, Batman takes an even darker, often excessive approach to his crimefighting. 1993's "Knightfall" series introduces a new villain named Bane, who critically injures Batman. Jean-Paul Valley, known as Azrael, is called upon to wear the Batsuit during Bruce's convalescence. 1994's Zero Hour introduced Batman's status as an urban legend. In 1998, Gotham City is destroyed during the "Cataclysm" storyline, and Batman is deprived of many of his technological resources.
The Golden Age Batman was introduced to the world in Detective Comics 27 in May, 1939. He is unique from most other super heroes of the time in that he has no super powers but instead relies upon superior training and intellect (along with some great toys!). He is known as the world's greatest detective. He resides in Gotham City and is the alter-ego of millionaire playboy Bruce Wayne. Wayne took up the mantle of the Batman after devoting his life to fighting crime upon witnessing the murder of his parents. Realizing that criminals are cowardly and superstitious, he decided to fashion his crime-fighting costume after a dark creature of the night, a bat, in order to instill fear into all criminals he encountered.
Batman: Under the Hood - Cover of Batman #639 - Batman and the Christian cross grave marker of Jason Todd (Robin II) Batman is not really dead. He faked his own death using powerful body chemistry-altering chemicals when Superman was ordered to apprehend him. Clark Kent (Superman), believing that Bruce is truly dead, visits the grave. (Clark is the large man wearing glasses.) Commissioner Gordon restrains an angry Selina Kyle. To the left of Clark can be seen Carrie Kelly, the new Robin, who is in on the plan and has come to retrieve Batman's body.
