Bathory: Erzsebet Bathory
built 266 days ago
bathory Erzsebet Bathory was a woman of exceptional beauty. Her long raven hair was contrasted with her milky complexion. Her amber eyes were almost catlike, her figure voluptuous. She was excessively vain and her narcissism drove her to new depths of perversion. The Countess would spend days in front of her large dark mirror she had designed herself. It was so comfortable that it even had supports on which to lean one's arms, so as to be able to stand for many hours in front of it without feeling tired.
Information on Erzsebet Bathory is found in pages 20 through 23. While the book does provide some good information it's best contribution comes from its overall topic. It can be hard to believe that a person is capable of doing such horrible acts, which helps legends grow. This book shows that, unfortunately, the urge to kill or torture is not limited only to Erzsebet Bathory. Not many can equal her in numbers but far too many equal her in the desire.
Erzsebet Bathory was born in Nyirbator, Hungary on 7 August 1560, the product of a long standing and powerful family of Hungarian nobility. She was engaged to Ferencz Nadasdy and moved to Nadasdy Castle when she was 11 years old, and the two married in 1575. Cachtice Castle, a Nadasdy family holding purchased from Emporer Rudolph II in 1602, was presented to Bathory by her husband as a wedding gift, and she was to spend the remainder of her life there. Nasady became the commander of Hungarian troops against the Turks in 1578, and Bathory managed the castle while he was away on the front.
