The 850 core words of Basic English are found in Wiktionary's Appendix:Basic English word list. In addition to this core 850, there are lists used to expand the vocabulary used in any given piece to 1,000 words. This is accomplished by adding a word list of 100 words particularly useful in a general field (e.g., science, verse, business, etc.), along with a 50-word list from a more specialized subset of that general field.

Basic English ("B[R]itish American Scientific International Commercial") has 850 basic words. Of the 850 words, 600 are names of things. Most of the words can be learned using pictures. 150 are words to describe things (adjectives and adverbs). The last 100 words are verbs and conjunctions. Verbs are words that show actions, and conjunctions are words that help put sentences together.

A year after that major win, Basic English landed a contract with the Risque Disque label. The band quickly recorded the two-sided single "Outside the Law" and "Images of Love." A few tours later, work on an album got underway. The full-length offering, Sweet Panic, finally showed up on the market in 1990. The band didn't receive the rave press reviews that were hoped for, and the label the guys had signed with was having enough troubles of its own. A short year after the release of Basic English's first album, the band's label, Risque Disque, went under, taking the group down with it on the way.

Basic English consists of 850 words that can express the meanings that can be found in a pocket dictionary. This is then expanded with 100 words of a general area of interest - science or business, and 50 words of a specialty within that general area. Thus any student's vocabulary is 1,000 words, plus certain prefixes and suffixes. A list of international words is assumed to be known. Compound words made up of Basic words, where the origin makes sense, are ... allowed. As are new words made from adding the allowed endings, -er, -ed, -ing.

Basic English, when it was made public, got attention from a great number of expert teachers, writers, and organizations in countries like Britain and the North America. Other countries like China and Japan, in addition, had teachers, from Britain, America, and Japan, teaching Basic in schools. After the War from 1941 to 45... the number of teachers and learners got smaller and smaller. The books, on and in Basic, went out of print in Britain and America. A group of teachers in Japan, however, have been learning, teaching, and writing about Basic English.
